Rolex Daytona watches have been the king of timepieces for decades, and the reason lies within the design and utility of the products. While Rolex never changes a great deal, in terms of design, with Rolex preserving Daytona’s image almost like a time-capsule to the original 1963 design. But, there is always a slight advancement on each model – drawing emphasis to the timeless quality of the brand while blending modernity into its history. And now, for the first time in history, Rolex has used meteorite to craft Daytona’s signature dial in the new 2021 edition.
The meteorite dials at the centre of the new Daytona may indicate its reform and removal from the motor-racing image of the past, but as there are only a few designs this year to feature the new addition, this may indicate that the product will fall into a limited edition selection, rather than the face of a new market. All that can be determined at the moment is that Rolex’s new timepiece is something magnificent, and not just down to its elegance, but to the poetic way it resounds the cosmos on your wrist – taking matter from out of this world entirely, to link back to the union of space and time.
There are currently six meteorite Daytonas on the market, with the colour scheme ranging from 3 different 18k gold alloys: yellow gold, white gold, and everose gold. With each colour coming with an option oysterflex and oyster bracelet straps, and cerachrom and metal bezels.
It is almost impossible not to become infatuated with Rolex’s meteorite collection. With dials that come with the universe’s fingerprint ingrained into the watch face, each with a different crystallised pattern. There is a distinctive beauty in the Daytona that transcends time entirely, as well as keeping in tune with the signature image that has remained intrinsically consistent since the original 1963 model.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Meteorite Dial Collection is currently priced at £27,350 for white-gold, £32,900 for yellow-gold, and £35,100 for the Everose-gold. These Daytonas have been available since June but getting your wrists around one does not sound as simple as adding them to your cart, with interested buyers being added to a waiting list. Obtaining one of these astral masterpieces will be dependent on personal urgency, so in other words, time is definitely of the essence, and get on that waiting list promptly if you want to add one to your collection by 2022.
